Recently, the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change under the Government of Bihar has issued public notice number 01/2019 for the recruitment of the Forest Guard which is also known as Vanrakshak.

Bihar Forest Guard Salary

The Vanrakshaks are the front face of the government in the forest area hence we can say that it is a key post in the forest department.

The Government of Bihar recruits the Forest Guard in the pay scale of 5,200 - 20,200 with Grade Pay of 2,000. After the revision of pay scales after the implementation of 7th Pay commission for the Government employees of the state, the revised pay matrix level for the Vanrakshak post is Level-3. As per the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, the basic pay of Bihar Forest would start from the 21,700.

Apart from the above basic pay forest guard will also get the dearness, house rent allowances, conveyance allowances etc. The value of total allowances would be 5,500 to 9,000 per month. The Bihar Forest Guard Salary details are shown here in the tabular form.

Hence, after the 7th Pay Revision Committee recommendation, the gross salary of Vanrakshak post would be 27,200 to 30,700 per month. It means if someone gets selected for the forest Guard position in the Bihar State, he/she would get minimum Rs 27,200/- from the date of joining the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Job Profile

The key works of a forest guard are hereunder;

  • To protect wildlife
  • To protect the forest land
  • To keep inform the superiors regularly about the activities in the assigned area
  • To inform the Range Officer or superiors immediately in case of an emergency
  • To regular patrol the forest area under his/her jurisdiction


In the field offices, Vanrakshak is the lowest post in the cadre in the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The immediate superior to the post is a forester whose rank in the pay matrix is level -5 and basic pay 29,200.

After the Forester, the next post is the Range Officer which is a Level-6 post under the Government of Bihar.

And then Assistant Conservator of Forest which is also widely known as ACF.
