If you are preparing for GATE, you might be appearing in engineering services too.

And most of Graduate Engineer like to work in the Indian Railway Department on Senior Section Engineer post.

The senior section engineer is not always the first choice for the BE/BTech degree holders, but the post is a secure job with a decent salary per month.

No doubt the engineering services offer a far better opportunity for the graduates. But getting selected in the post is a bit tough task.

I have compared both positions on some common points and listed here in the table.

Post Name Railway SSE Engineering Services
Post Type Group-C/Class-III Group-A/ Class-I
Cadre Type Supervisory Post Gazetted Officer Post
Pay Scale 44,900 - 1,42,400/- 56,100 - 1,77,500/-
Entry Pay 44,900/- 56,100/-
Salary Check Here Minimum 70,000 Per Month
Posting Location Anywhere in India Mostly in District Headquarters
Promotions Up to Junior Administrative Grade Up to Higher Administrative Grade Service

Based on the above differences, you can decide for a better career in the government sector.

If you get selected for the Railway SSE post, and couldn't make through the Engineering services examination. In this case, you should join the Railway as a Senior Section Engineer. Also, you can carry on studies for the IES (Class-I Officer) job for a better career opportunity.
